Some people use Ebay as a hobby to make extra cash. Some people have quit their jobs and are making their living off Ebay. On a monthly basis, the phenomenon of Ebay continues to expand and grow.
(article continued below …)

Naturally, the best advice is to start selling part time on Ebay so that you can learn the tricks and secrets. It will take some time to learn the inside secrets that the top sellers know. It can be a great way to make extra cash. Ebay will take some work and is not a get rich quick scheme. However, if you take your time and do research, you could make extra income for yourself and your family. After you start to make money on a consistent basis, you might consider doing Ebay as your full time job.

For your Ebay business, all you need is internet access and a product to sell. Don t worry! If you don t have a product, there are plenty of companies where you can purchase items to sell. SMC (Specialty Merchandise Corp) is one company where you can purchase items at reasonable below cost prices.

Many people start off selling old or odd items from their homes. Others are going to garage sales and picking up great deals and then selling these products on Ebay. You can find almost anything on Ebay. You are only restricted by your own imagination.

Here is a little tip: Other’s people junk can be your gold mine! That old Barbie doll up in the attic or in the basement could be a gold mine and bring in a huge profit. For example, it is reported that the Collectibles Category is the top selling category on Ebay. An old barbie doll, old red wagon, and old clock are only a few examples of items in the Collectibles Category.

Top 10 Selling Secrets on Ebay

1. Do your research!

Make sure there is a need for the item that you are selling. Do a search for your item and see how many items are found for your keyword search. Examine each auction and see the bid amount and number of bids. Follow a number of auctions for several days and see what the final bid is. This will give you an excellent idea if there is a need for your item. It will also help you estimate the amount of profit you can make from the auction. If you don t find your item, it might not be worth your time listing that item. Try to find an item that people truly want. After you start making money with Ebay, you can always go back and list that original product.

2. Find the right category for your item!

If you are selling a collectible, please make sure that you list it in the collectible category. If you are listing a toy or hobby, please make sure that you list it in the Toy and Hobbies Category. This could make it easier for people to find your item. Do your homework? Search for your item and see what categories other sellers listed the same item in.

3. Keywords and descriptions are critical!

Use the appropriate keywords to describe your product. If you are selling a Barbie Doll, specify the type of doll it is: 1980 Holiday Barbie Doll. If you are selling a model train, specify the type: HO Santa Fe Caboose. Your descriptions are critical to avoid any future problems or potential returns. Honesty is the best policy. If there is a chip, crack or dent, specify this in the description. This could save you a lot of aggravation later on. If a buyer truly wants your item, a crack or chip won t stop them from bidding on your item.

How To Start An eBook Business In 5 Easy Steps by Daryl and Andrew

Category: Ebooks BusinessSP Marketing @ 4:44 pm

Day two of the Andrew and Daryl show was all about how they created a business selling ebooks online. Daryl Grant spoke for most of the day and the focus was on the practical steps to start your own ebook business.

If you listened to the two part podcast audio interview I did with Daryl you should already have a basic understanding of their business model since Daryl was very generous with the details. If you haven’t, I recommend you do so immediately. This article acts as a great companion piece to go along with the audio.

On Saturday Daryl and Andrew broke their system down in more detail and I’m going to summarize some of what was presented for you below.

Steps to an eBook Business

Here’s a break down of the process to create an ebook business. This is the model Daryl and Andrew used to generate over $250,000 in passive income during their first year in the ebook business.

Step 1: Market Research

Conduct keyword research to determine the amount of people searching online for particular niches. Daryl recommends the Pixelfast site, which makes use of the Overture keyword lookup tool. This will tell you how many people are searching each month for certain keyword phrases.

You could also try advanced keyword tools such as Keyword Discovery or WordTracker.

If you follow the recommendations from Daryl, you aim to collect 20 ideas for possible books – and these ideas can be from absolutely anywhere, in any niche. From these 20 ideas you perform a six step disqualification process to narrow down your list to only the really viable ideas.

One of the criteria is you need at least 30,000 – 50,000 searches per month (roughly) on specific relevant phrases based on Overture data before you continue the research process for that niche. This is to ensure there is enough potential traffic to make significant sales, but is only one condition that needs to be met. Daryl provided a fantastic table listing some example niches that were researched and how each topic area was disqualified or qualified for the next step, based on the following criteria -

  • How much and what quality is the free information already available online on the topic?
  • How many competing products/books are already for sale?
  • How many adwords campaigns are currently running on the search phrases?
  • Is it an inch-wide and mile-deep niche?

2.You won’t need to invest a significant amount of money getting them printed.

How much money can you make with ebooks?

Lots! You could get seriously rich selling ebooks, but, as with any other business opportunity, how much you make depends on the amount of effort you put into your business. If you don’t put the effort in, you won’t get the reward.

Getting Started

If you are thinking about starting an online business, there is no better place to start than selling digital products or ebooks. People can download them directly to their computer and you don’t have to worry about packaging and delivery as it’s all done for you.

It’s actually how I started making money online, and I still do have my own ebooks and make a very nice income doing so.

You basically have two options if you’d like to start an ebook business and this you either write the books yourself or you buy them from other people who will give you a licence to resell them so you can keep 100% of the profits.

There are pro’s and con’s of both methods which I’ll go over briefly.

Writing your own ebooks

  • PRO: They will be totally original
  • PRO: You can add your own affiliate links to get extra sales / commissions down the track
  • PRO: You have full control over the content and delivery
  • CON: Writing a whole ebook can be a struggle for some people

Buying ebooks and reselling them

  • PRO: You can start selling them immediately without waiting
  • PRO: You can have a whole library of different topics to appeal to different markets
  • CON: You have no control (usually) of the content of the book
  • CON: Other people will probably also be selling the same ebook as you

How To Start An E-Book Business By Alexander Gordon

Category: Ebooks BusinessSP Marketing @ 4:37 pm

Working from home is a dream come true for most people. You get to set your schedule, spend more time with your family, and make money doing something you enjoy. If you love books, then selling e-books from home is ideal for you. This article discusses some ways to make your home-based e-book business a success.

There are two ways to source e-books, you can either create them, or buy them from other people.

Writing E-Books: Getting Inspiration

Writing e-books is all about creativity. If you feel you have an idea that you need to convey to people, or an idea people will pay to know about, you should create an e-book. Carry a notepad with at all times, so that whenever you get an idea for an e-book, you can jot it down. With time, you will get better at it, as more and more ideas will keep coming to you.

Selling E-Books from Home:

In order to sell e-books, you need a computer and a reliable PC connection, preferably broadband. The Internet is a great place for business as far as information goes, and selling e-books is one way of exchanging information.

1) Market Research
Even though you run a home based business, it cannot get anywhere until you do your homework well. Market research will help you to identify areas of growth, and the kind of e-books that are in demand.

2) Resale
In case you are not writing your own e-books, you can make money by buying the rights to other e-books and reselling them.

3) Sales Letter
Writing a good sales letter for your e-book boosts sales, since people want a little information about the book before they buy it.

25 Efecient Tips to Market Your Blog

Category: Blogging TipsSP Marketing @ 2:27 am

With so many blogs being created every day, it’s a mystery to many bloggers how to make their blog stand out. There are many types of blogs or purposes for blogs and a certain number of tactics are applicable to just about all of them.

Some companies choose to hire a blog consultant, but others like to try things internally. For those “DIY” companies and individuals interested in practical tips for marketing and optimizing a business blog, try out the following list of blog marketing and optimization tips:

  1. Decide on a stand alone domain name www.myblog.com or directory of existing site www.mysite.com/blog. Sub domain is also an option blog.mysite.com. Avoid hosted services that do not allow you to use your own domain name!
  2. Obtain and install customizable blog software – WordPress and Moveable Type are my favorites.
  3. Customize blog look and feel templates – aka design.
  4. Research keywords and develop a glossary – Keyword Discovery, WordTracker, SitePoint, SEOBook Keyword Research.

However, when I tell my students they need to start their own blog, they often look at me like I’m crazy.

“But I’m not a writer!” they cry. “What on earth could I possibly write about that would interest my visitors?”

Profitable Product Pages

Category: Website TipsSP Marketing @ 5:36 am

According to MarketingSherpa’s just released “Landing Page Handbook, Second Edition,” 79 percent of traffic from search engines is directed to interior pages, making every product or landing page a de facto home page.

“Checklist for Comprehensive Content,” adapted from the “ARS eCommerce/e-taling group Online Content Impact Survey”

Text/Image

  • Start with a clear overview of the product
  • Follow up with a long description (mixing paragraphs and bullet points) for those who seek more information
  • Provide a crisp, clear image to give a true sense of the merchandise

Tools

  • Include user-generated ratings/reviews
  • Incorporate alternative views, zoom and color change
  • Include product comparisons (if appropriate)

Customer Service

  • Place your merchant guarantee in a prime location
  • Show stock status
  • Include customer service links with a toll-free number

“Today’s home page is quickly evolving into not being a home page,” explained Guy Mansueto, the vice president of eMarketing at Bayshore Solutions, an Advertising Age Top 100 Interactive Marketing Services Agency.

“And the reason for that is the tremendous amount of search taking place today on the Internet [over 9 billion searches a month in the U.S. alone, according to comScore].

Search engines are now defining what a site’s home page really is.” And more often than not these days, it’s a product page. The trouble is, if your product pages don’t include the proper amount and mix of information that online shoppers are looking for, they’ll leave without making a purchase.

Indeed, according a recent survey conducted by ARS eCommerce and the e-tailing group, 79 percent of online shoppers rarely or never purchase a product online without complete product information — and 72 percent abandon the site completely, often going to a competitor, if they don’t find what they want or need on a particular product page. Top 10 Tips for Building a Profitable Web Site

Category: Website TipsSP Marketing @ 5:29 am

by Janet Attard

More and more small businesses are realizing that having a web site is no longer an option. It’s a necessity. Consumers, businesses and government buyers all use the web to buy products and services directly and to research those purchases they will eventually make offline through more traditional means.

Having a web site and profiting from it don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand, however. In fact, some web sites are so poorly designed and constructed that they drive customers away instead of getting them to open their wallets wide. You can minimize that problem by following these basic principles of sound web site design and navigation.

1. Don’t hide what you sell
In many instances, the “content” that visitors want is information about the product they want to buy. If you make it difficult to find your shopping area, if your pages take a long time to load, or if visitors can’t find your order form, they will either give up or go shop in your competitor’s online store.
